Accessing data from the spectrometers on the Dell PC workstations
The first step is to access the Bruker folder on the spectrometer computer as a network drive. This is the equivalent of logging on the SGI computer. DON'T log out of Windows 2000--everybody will use the "nmrlab" account on the PC. You will not be charged for using the workstation.
- Double click on the "My Network Places" icon.
- Go to the Tools menu and select "Disconnect Network Drive ..." to make sure there are no existing connections. If there are, the "Disconnect Network Drive" window will appear. Highlight any connections and click OK. If there are no existing connections, you will get a window that says "There are no existing connections to disconnect." Click OK.
- Go to the Tools menu again and select "Map Network Drive..." This will bring up a window also called "Map Network Drive."
- The "Drive" entry should say "F:". If so, don't change it. In the "Folder" entry, enter o2:/u if you want to access 400 data, or kunmr5:/u if you want to access 500 data. Do not use "Browse" or any of the other options.
- Click "Finish."
- The "Disk Access Drive Properties" window will pop up. Put your SGI name and password (if you have one) into the boxes. Make sure the
"PCNFSD Server" option is selected and put the SGI computer name (o2 for 400, kunmr5 for 500) in the adjacent box.
- Click OK.
- You should see a "NFS Login Successful" box that says you are logged in with a five digit number for the
UID. If so, click "Yes." If the UID is -1, you did not enter your name or password correctly; click "No" and start over.
- Within a couple of seconds you should see a directory view for the u folder, either from o2 or from kunmr5. You are then ready to process/plot data or back up data to CD, Zip, or floppy disks. You can drop and drag folders between windows to back up to Zip or to floppy. To make CD's, see
these instructions.
- When you are finished, close the connection to the spectrometer by double clicking on the "My Network Places" icon, choose Tools, choose "Disconnect Network Drive...", highlight F:, click OK.
